I was in the middle of writing book 2 of my erotic paranormal series about a bisexual vamp when I started hearing the term Reverse Harem. I ignored it at first. I didn't know what the heck a Reverse Harem was, but I didn't think it had anything to do with my writing. I wasn't planning to have any harems in any of my books. Why would I? The stories I like to write don't include harems. At least, I didn't think they did.
Then, I read an explanation of what a Reverse Harem actually is. Mainly, that it is one woman surrounded by a horde of men who think she is the best thing to happen to them. They are all willing to share her. Okay, yeah, I could see that. It sounded strangely familiar. At the heart of my series, I had a female character who was going to end up with a small horde of lovers who all think she hung the moon. Only, not all of the horde in my book were men. So, maybe not. Is there room in the Reverse Harem world for a bisexual vamp who loves both men and women? I'm not sure. I hope so. So, what is my series about anyway? Well, other than sex? Because, let me be honest, this series started as an attempt to write erotica. I'll admit I needed the practice with my love scenes. I needed practice writing words like cock, dick, pussy, and muff because those words aren't part of my every day life. Those words make me nervous. I can't even say them without blushing. I love reading erotica though. It's one of my favorite genres. Once I found books with bedrooms doors wide open, I thought it was the best thing ever. Reading them and writing them are two completely different pastimes. I admit my first efforts at writing erotic scenes were rather bland. There was something lacking in the words I wrote. They did not get me excited. I definitely needed practice. Out of this desire to get better with sex scenes, popped up this incredibly sexy, female vampire who I immediately loved. She was bold, sexy, and loved both men and women. After living for over a hundred years, she was ready to settle down. But, can a vamp that old settle down with only one person? There are all kinds of roadblocks to a relationship with someone that old who might well live for another hundred years. So my main character manages to fall in love with more than one character and doesn't want to choose. Spoiler alert: She doesn't have to choose. She can keep them all. And, she does. Book 2 in the Crimson Oasis series, The Vamp and Her Pixie is out now. We met the pixie in book 1 when the Vamp chose Logan instead of Becca. A move she regrets. But, is it a Reverse Harem? I don't know. The Vamp and Her Pixie is straight on lesbian love and I'm not ashamed to admit that I think it's pretty hot. Does having one female in the horde of males make my series not a Reverse Harem? I don't know. I suppose that's up to the readers to decide if I manage to get any.
